This collaborative project with the World Bank Group underscores our commitment to enhancing global peace efforts and supports the complex processes of reintegrating armed groups by promoting sustainable development and human rights initiatives.

Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) practitioners today are increasingly required to plan and implement programmes in the absence of a peace agreement, often amidst ongoing violence and security. These conflict contexts are often protracted in nature and may be exacerbated by a potent mix of violent extremism, terrorism, and transnational organised crime. This project aims to enhance national and regional capacities of partners to engage with operational challenges and risks associated with their DDR programmes, situated within the broader humanitarian/human rights, development, and peace nexus (HDP Nexus).

Key Take-aways

  • DDR Strategies: Develop DDR plans that are feasible even without peace agreements, in regions affected by ongoing conflicts.

  • Address Complex Challenges: Addressing the diverse and complex issues of violent extremism, terrorism, and organised crime that fuel conflicts.

  • Capacity Building: Boost the abilities of national and regional entities to manage and mitigate risks within the framework of humanitarian, human rights, development, and peace nexus (HDP nexus).
