ABOUT OAM CONSULT

ABOUT OAM CONSULT

Who we are?

OAM Consult is a Danish-based Consultancy firm established in Copenhagen in 2014. OAM Consult supports governments and partners in emerging markets to work more effectively together to identify and unlock their climate-smart development potential. We do this by leveraging their most important asset: the people themselves.

We are a question-driven organisation that constantly scrutinises the questions we ask to the data. This helps us to continuously optimise existing business solutions and processes and discover innovative ones.

APPROACH

APPROACH

How we do it?

To achieve this aim, OAM consult services help our public and private sector clients to:

01. Develop a common methodology
that informs shared approaches to data collection and analysis. This methodology leverages the comparative advantages of existing partner methodologies across the following increasingly intersecting fields of: development financing, conflict prevention, climate change, biodiversity, and land degradation
02. Diversify access to short- and long-term financing
instruments that include: grants, concessional and non-concessional loans, and climate financing
03. Capitalise
on the fast-growing climate finance envelope
04. Optimise their funding architecture
to ensure more effective and efficient blends of public and private financing
05. Increase impact
and social return on investment (SROI)
06. Strengthen and mentor
implementation capacities
07. Design and test methodologies
that explore the limitations and comparative advantages of AI and Human Intelligence (HINT) to help identify robust development growth models that are climate proof and resilient to risks
08. Develop and test shared learning
architectures to incentivise cooperation and actions among partners towards shared goals

Motivation

MOTIVATION

Why we do it? The following is a snapshot of the ten main challenges that OAM Consult aims to help partners in their pursuit of sustainable development, climate change, and conflict prevention goals.

1

The world is currently witnessing
the highest rate of violent conflict and forced displacement globally and in Africa - in 50 years. Marginalized groups like women and youth continue to be disproportionally affected.

2

This trend is forecasted to continue
in the next 3+ years. This risk can be high in certain contexts where elections will be held. This year alone, is unique because never will so many elections be held in one year in the history of the world. In Africa, fifteen elections are to be held this year alone (2024).

3

Most violent conflicts across
the world (60%) are recuring events because root causes are not being addressed.

4

There is an increased trend of cross-border conflict contagion.
For example, an estimated 25% of all violent events in West Africa occur within 50 kilometres of a border with high risk of cross border transference.

There is a proliferation of armed groups

Early Warning and Strategic Foresight
infrastructure primarily address poverty, forced displacement, and conflict symptoms. However, existing systems often overlook holistic approaches integrating poverty, displacement, conflict prevention, and climate risks.

7

No blueprint for partnerships.
It is widely acknowledged that effectively breaking repeating patterns of violent conflict require a concerted effort across partners to address the root causes of poverty and forced displacement that are being exacerbated by risk multipliers like climate impacts. However, we also know that there is unfortunately, there is no blueprint to help operationalize conflict prevention, and that partners continue to work in silos – each with their own ways of gathering and processing data that informs their actions.

Artificial Intelligence enhanced data collection
and analysis modalities run a high risk of eroding trust among the population in contexts where trust is already low.
